OGDC strikes oil and gas in Kohat

January 20, 2026 (MLN): Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX:OGDC), operator of Nashpa Exploration License with 65% working interest, alongside joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30%) and Government Holdings Private Limited (5%), has made a significant oil and gas discovery at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

The discovery was confirmed during a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-03) conducted in Samana Suk and Shinawari formations, where the well flowed at an impressive rate of 3,100 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 8.15 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas.

The flow was achieved through a 32/64" choke size at wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 3,010 psig.

The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spud-in on December 30, 2024, as an exploratory well under the Nashpa Exploration License to assess the hydrocarbon potential of multiple formations including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali.

The well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters into Kingriali Formation.

Wireline logs evaluation indicated promising results, leading to the cased-hole drill stem test.

 Prior to this discovery, two earlier cased-hole drill stem tests had been conducted in Kingriali and Datta formations, which also resulted in oil and gas discoveries, demonstrating the area's strong hydrocarbon potential.Discovery will play a crucial role in mitigating the energy supply-demand gap through indigenous resources.

According to the company's statement issued today, the findings are expected to add significantly to the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDCL, its joint venture partners, and contribute to Pakistan's overall energy security and resource development objectives.
