OGDC starts production from Pakistan’s first horizontal oil well

March 24, 2026 (MLN): Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) has successfully commenced production from Pasakhi-13, marking Pakistan’s first horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir (Lower Goru-A sand).

Located in District Hyderabad, Sindh, the well is currently producing 460 barrels of oil per day (BPD).

Drilled to a measured depth of 2,966 meters, Pasakhi-13 features a 546-meter horizontal section and utilizes geo-steering technology, allowing precise navigation within a narrow 3-meter drilling window to optimally target the reservoir’s sweet spot.

The well was completed and tested with a short-string Electric Submersible Pump (ESP), specially optimized for horizontal well configurations.

This advanced drilling approach has resulted in almost three times higher production compared to offset wells under similar conditions, despite challenging reservoir characteristics.

Pasakhi-13 is part of the Pasakhi & Pasakhi North Development & Production Lease, where OGDCL holds a 100% working interest.

The achievement reflects the company’s commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and deployment of advanced technologies, boosting indigenous hydrocarbon production and strengthening Pakistan’s energy security.
