September 09, 2026 (MLN): Lundali-1 well in Sindh’s Sukhpur-II Block has commenced gas production at 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), with first gas achieved on September 06, 2026, adding fresh indigenous gas to Pakistan’s energy supply.

The development was disclosed separately by Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) and Mari Energies Limited (PSX: MARI) to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.

The well is currently producing 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas at a wellhead pressure of 2,000 pounds per square inch (psi), with the produced gas being supplied to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC).

OGDCL, which holds a 30% working interest in the block, disclosed the development through a material information notice submitted to the PSX on Wednesday.

Mari Energies, also a 30% working-interest partner, separately notified the exchange of the successful commissioning of the well.

The Sukhpur-II Block is operated by Prime Global Energies Limited, which holds a 25% working interest, while Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company Limited holds the remaining 15%.

According to the disclosures, the Petroleum Concession Agreement (PCA) and Exploration Licence (EL) for Sukhpur-II Block (Block 2568-23) became effective on December 02, 2025.

Well brought on stream under new JV

Lundali-1 was originally drilled under the previous joint venture arrangement. Following the grant of the exploration licence and commencement of the present joint venture, the partners accelerated exploration and development activities and subsequently brought the well on stream.

The successful commissioning marks the transition of Lundali-1 from an exploration asset into a producing gas well, adding new indigenous gas to Pakistan's energy supply.

Mari Energies said the milestone reflected the joint venture's commitment to strengthening Pakistan's energy security through the development of domestic hydrocarbon resources.

OGDCL similarly highlighted that production from Lundali-1 would contribute additional indigenous gas to the national energy supply.

10 MMscfd initial production

At its current production rate of 10 MMscfd, Lundali-1 is delivering approximately 10 billion cubic feet of gas on an annualized basis, assuming production remains at the current rate throughout the year.

The gas is being supplied directly to SSGC, linking the newly commissioned production to Pakistan's existing gas distribution network.

The development is particularly significant for the domestic energy sector as Pakistan continues to face challenges related to declining indigenous gas reserves and reliance on imported energy.

The addition of locally produced gas can help supplement the country's existing supply base and potentially reduce pressure on imported gas requirements, subject to the well maintaining its production profile.

The wellhead pressure of 2,000 psi also indicates that the well has commenced production with substantial pressure at the wellhead, although the longer-term production profile and reservoir performance will determine the ultimate commercial contribution of the discovery.

Ownership structure

The current working-interest structure of the Sukhpur-II Block is:

  • Mari Energies Limited — 30%
  • Oil and Gas Development Company Limited — 30%
  • Prime Global Energies Limited — 25% (Operator)
  • Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company Limited — 15%

The successful commissioning therefore represents a production milestone for all four joint-venture partners.

The disclosures were made in compliance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015 and Clause 5.6.1(a) of the PSX Regulations.

The first gas from Lundali-1 comes as Pakistan seeks to increase domestic hydrocarbon production and strengthen energy security through the development of indigenous resources.
