September 29, 2025 (MLN): A major step toward advancing MSME digital transformation in Cambodia has been taken with the introduction of the Digital Adoption Initiative (DAI), a joint effort between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Cambodia’s Techo Startup Center.

The program is designed to help hundreds of micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) embrace digital technologies, strengthening their competitiveness, resilience and growth prospects in the digital economy.

According to an ADB press release issued Monday, the DAI will run through 2028 and adopt a phased approach, targeting one key industry sector each year.

The initiative will begin with Cambodia’s vital tourism sector, a cornerstone of the country’s economy.

The program is part of the government’s broader vision under the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021–2035, which aims to transform the nation into a digitally enabled and inclusive economy.

“The Digital Adoption Initiative will support MSMEs to integrate digital solutions into their daily operations, helping them become more competitive, resilient, and future-ready,” said ADB Country Director for Cambodia Jyotsana Varma.

She stressed that close collaboration with the Techo Startup Center and industry associations will ensure Cambodian MSMEs can fully thrive in the digital economy.

Techo Startup Center Executive Director Nguonly Taing emphasized that the initiative will provide businesses with practical digital tools to scale and innovate.

“By focusing on key sectors, we can direct resources to areas where digital solutions will have the biggest impact on competitiveness, job creation, and women’s entrepreneurship,” he noted.

The climbs of the DAI marks a significant milestone in Cambodia’s journey toward MSME digitalization, boosting productivity, creating opportunities and building a stronger foundation for long-term economic growth.
