Net metering share climbs 105bps YoY in May 2026

July 09, 2026 (MLN): Net metering units in Pakistan continued their upward trajectory in May 2026, with the share of net metering in total power generation rising by 105 basis points on a yearly basis, showing growing solar adoption and reduced dependence on the national grid.

On a month-on-month basis, however, net metering units declined by 9.5%, easing from April 2026's levels even as the broader annual trend remained firmly upward.

Overall power generation in the country fell by 0.9% YoY in May 2026. Meanwhile, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has projected power demand to grow by 1.0% YoY during CY26, according to a report by Arif Habib Limited (AHL) Research.
