October 28, 2026 (MLN): Nishat Chunian Power Limited (PSX:
NCPL) reported a 1% increase in its net profit for the first quarter ended
September 30, 2026 (1QFY27 / 3MFY27), reaching Rs558.25m compared to Rs552.15m recorded
in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Reflecting this steady bottom-line
performance, basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) for the three-month
period clocked in at Rs1.52, edging up 1% from Rs1.50 recorded in 3MFY26.
The company witnessed a surge in
top-line revenue, which rose to Rs7.01bn in 3MFY27 from Rs1.37bn in the same
period last year.
However, a steeper rise in the cost of
sales to Rs6.60bn compressed margins, pulling gross profit down 8% to Rs402.07m
against Rs435.73m in 3MFY26.
Consequently, the gross margin
contracted to 5.74% from 31.88% in the comparative quarter.
Operating overheads expanded as
administrative expenses grew 14% to Rs112.72m (up from Rs98.67m), while other
expenses rose 43% to Rs8.04m (up from Rs5.63m).
Total operating overheads stood at
Rs120.76m, marking a 16% increase.
Compounding this, other income fell
46% to Rs158.51m against Rs290.88m in the year-ago period, leading to a 29%
decline in profit from operations to Rs439.82m (down from Rs622.32m).
Below the operating line, finance
costs climbed sharply to Rs27.56m compared to Rs1.55m in 3MFY26.
The bottom line was cushioned by an
associate contribution, where NCPL recognized Rs210.49m as its share of net
profit of an associate accounted for using the equity method (compared to nil
in 3MFY26).
Accounting for a statutory levy of
Rs11.06m (up from Rs176 thousand), profit before taxation settled at Rs611.69m,
down 1% from Rs620.59m.
A 22% reduction in income tax expense to
Rs53.44m (down from Rs68.44m) allowed Nishat Chunian Power Limited to conclude
the quarter with a net profit of Rs558.25m.
