NCCIA cracks down on AI misuse, registers case over murder threats

October 13, 2026 (MLN): The National Cyber Crime
Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is stepping up efforts to address the misuse of
artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms for unlawful activities,
with its Islamabad Circle registering a case involving alleged threats to kill
a woman.
An NCCIA official said on Tuesday that the case was
registered after an inquiry into allegations that a man threatened to kill his
former female friend and attempted to obtain information about methods of
murder through AI and online platforms.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the suspect
allegedly sought information and ideas related to committing murder. The
allegations remain under investigation, and the facts will be established
through the legal process.
The case highlights concerns about the potential use of AI
tools and digital communication platforms to facilitate threats, intimidation
and other criminal activities.
The NCCIA stressed that digital platforms and AI
applications must be used responsibly and should not be exploited to threaten
individuals, spread fear or support unlawful acts.
The official said the agency was working to tackle emerging
cybercrime threats, protect citizens from the misuse of digital technologies
and take action against those found responsible in accordance with the law.
He added that investigations would continue based on
available evidence and applicable legal procedures.
