NA Committee seeks swift progress on ZTBL, DISCO privatization

August 18, 2026 (MLN): The National Assembly Standing Committee on Privatization on Tuesday called for timely implementation of its recommendations and directed the relevant authorities to provide complete, accurate and updated information along with necessary follow-up measures.
The committee meeting, chaired by MNA Muhammad Farooq
Sattar, reviewed the implementation status of earlier recommendations and
received updates from the concerned ministry, departments and organizations.
The committee was briefed on the current position and
proposed way forward for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL).
It was informed that the Federal Cabinet approved ZTBL’s
inclusion in the Privatization Programme 2024–29 on August 13, 2024.
Subsequently, the Privatization Commission Board categorized
ZTBL as a Major Privatization and initiated the privatization process.
The committee also reviewed the proposed privatization of
Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and sought detailed updates on the progress,
procedure and related developments.
Emphasizing transparency and due diligence, the committee
stressed strict compliance with all applicable rules and procedures during the
privatization process.
It also recommended that, if privatization proceeds, the
employment status, service rights and legitimate interests of existing
employees be protected in accordance with relevant laws, rules and regulations.
Members of the National Assembly, including Anwar-ul-Haq
Chaudhary, Saba Sadiq, Samar Haroon Bilour, Sehar Kamran and Arshad Abdullah
Vohra, attended the meeting.
The Secretary, Ministry of Privatization/Privatization
Commission, President and CEO of ZTBL, and senior officials of the ministry and
its attached departments were also present.
