January 14, 2026 (MLN): The Punjab government has approved the launch of a new initiative, “Agriculture Lab on Wheels,” aimed at delivering essential agricultural services directly to farmers at their doorsteps.

Under the programme, mobile agriculture laboratories will be deployed in 15 districts to provide on-the-spot soil and water testing, helping farmers make informed decisions for improved crop planning and productivity.

The initiative is being launched on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who said the programme would ensure immediate, accurate and reliable agricultural information for farmers.

She noted that the availability of mobile testing facilities would significantly improve soil fertility assessment and water quality management across the province, APP reported.

To ensure smooth operations, a central control room will monitor the mobile laboratories for efficiency, coordination and transparency. In addition, the government has decided to establish 100 container-based farmer facilitation centres in all districts of Punjab.

These centres will be equipped with data call centres, agriculture officers, digital tools and other facilities to provide technical guidance and advisory services.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed confidence that these farmer-focused measures would help achieve a record wheat yield during the current season.

She added that several other initiatives for farmers’ welfare, including the Kissan Card scheme and tractor-related projects, are already underway, emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

In another boost to the agricultural sector, the Sindh government has decided to provide seeds to farmers at affordable prices across the province.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Provincial Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar in Karachi, according to another press release issued.

The Sindh Seed Corporation will also carry out geo-marking of all agricultural lands in the province.

This initiative aims to better manage farming resources, improve crop planning, and enhance overall productivity for farmers in Sindh.
