LMC, GAC Group set to shake up Pakistan's EV market

May 20, 2026 (MLN): GAC Group, a Fortune 500 Chinese
automaker and the top-ranked manufacturer in China's JD Power Quality Survey,
is set to make its official entry into Pakistan's electric vehicle market
through an exclusive partnership with Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC).
The alliance is being seen as a significant moment for
Pakistan's automotive sector not merely because of the brand being introduced,
but because of what it represents.
Pakistani consumers are set to have access to
a fully supported EV ecosystem backed by an established local distributor,
complete with official warranties, spare parts, and an authorized dealership
network.
That distinction carries real weight in a market where
electric vehicles have so far existed largely in a grey zone.
Imported EVs have been available, but buyers have had little
recourse when something goes wrong. LMC's formal distribution of GAC vehicles would change that calculus entirely, bringing the kind of after-sales infrastructure
Pakistani consumers already associate with the company's Kia and Peugeot
operations.
With BYD already in the market and MG having made early
inroads, competition in Pakistan's EV space is intensifying.
But LMC arrives with a distinct advantage an established dealer network, manufacturing
experience, and the consumer trust built over years in the local market. If
pricing stays competitive, the partnership could position LMC as the dominant
force in Pakistan's electric vehicle revolution.
Earlier, GAC Group and LMC have entered into an
exclusive partnership formally disclosed under Sections 96 and 131 of the
Securities Act, 2015. LMC, a subsidiary of Lucky Cement Limited (PSX: LUCK),
currently manufactures and distributes KIA and Peugeot vehicles in Pakistan.
Lucky Cement's broader conglomerate spans cement, chemicals, pharmaceuticals,
energy, mobile phone assembly, and copper and gold mining.
