LHC throws out Honda Atlas plea

September 30, 2025 (MLN): In a major development, the Lahore High Court has rejected Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited’s attempt to transfer its case against the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and fixed October 13, 2025, for final arguments.

The automaker, accused of consumer exploitation through premium payments, delayed deliveries, and price escalations, had challenged CCP’s jurisdiction to probe its practices, said a press release issued today. 

The court, however, refused HACL’s request to shift the matter and directed both sides to argue on the merits without further delay.

CCP’s counsel told the court the inquiry—initiated in 2018—has been stalled since 2023 due to Honda’s legal maneuvers but assured the bench the probe would be wrapped up within six months once the stay lifts.

Despite five official notices from 2018 to 2022, Honda failed to fully cooperate, instead filing multiple petitions to stall accountability.

The case, already marred by more than 15 hearings and adjournments, will now move toward a decisive ruling next month.

The Commission maintains that it had a valid quorum at the time of launching the inquiry, which covers potential violations of Sections 3 and 4 of the Competition Act, 2010.

With thirteen carmakers now in the market—up from just three when the probe began—the CCP insists Honda’s delaying tactics are aimed at shielding itself from scrutiny, while the regulator seeks to set a precedent on consumer rights and fair competition in Pakistan’s auto sector.
