Kyrgyzstan charts SCO growth agenda

August 18, 2025 (MLN): Kyrgyzstan has outlined its economic priorities for expanding trade and investment as it takes over the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

At the SCO business forum in Bishkek, it presented strategic directions focusing on infrastructure, industrial cooperation, digital economy, agriculture, and green energy initiatives.

Key projects include the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, development of the Bedel border crossing, transport and logistics centers, and e-commerce hubs, as reported by APP.

The government also aims to localize assembly and processing industries in agriculture, food, light industry, and building materials, while promoting the creation of a SCO Common Digital Space to support e-commerce, standardization, and certification.

In agriculture, Kyrgyzstan plans to boost exports of environmentally friendly products and develop agroclusters, alongside joint projects in small hydropower, irrigation modernization, and sustainable water use.

“The SCO is not only a platform for dialogue, but also an emerging economic bloc of the future. Kyrgyzstan is ready to become a reliable partner and a regional platform for integration projects,” said Temir Sariev, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Chamber also pledged support for investment initiatives and B2B and B2G meetings, encouraging active cooperation during Kyrgyzstan’s SCO chairmanship.
