KPK implements immediate fuel conservation measures

March 07, 2026 (MLN): The Government of Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa’s Finance Department has issued an urgent notification directing
all subordinate offices to implement immediate fuel conservation measures.
Citing a "critical situation" arising from global
crises and anticipated disruptions to the petroleum supply chain, the
provincial government aims to ensure that essential operations remain
functional despite potential local shortages.
According to the directive, the Secretary to Government,
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department, has instructed all Heads of
Attached Departments, Project Directors, and the Director FMIU to
transition all internal, inter-departmental, and coordination meetings
to virtual platforms.
This shift is intended to minimize physical movement and
fuel consumption, ensuring that the ongoing budget cycle and preparations for
the upcoming financial year are not compromised by these logistical
constraints.
To enforce these savings, the department has restricted all
non-essential travel, including outstation visits, inspections, and ceremonial
trips.
Official vehicles are now strictly reserved for essential
duties, and departments are encouraged to utilize vehicle pooling wherever
feasible.
Furthermore, administrative offices have been tasked with
the rigorous monitoring and recording of fuel allocations to prevent any
unnecessary usage.
The notification concludes by emphasizing that while
austerity is a priority, it must not hamper the "priority assignment"
of the budget preparation exercise.
Department heads have been directed to sensitize their staff
regarding the judicious use of government resources to navigate the prevailing
economic circumstances.
