K-Electric, HESCO exempted from nationwide loadshedding plan

April 15, 2026 (MLN):  The federal government has decided to exempt K-Electric and the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) from its newly declareddaily loadshedding schedule.

Earlier, authorities had introduced a nationwide plan to manage rising electricity demand during peak hours, stating that consumers would face power outages of around 2.25 hours each day between 5pm and 1am under a “peak relief strategy.”

However, the Power Division, in a notification issued, later clarified that this measure would not apply to K-Electric and HESCO.

The exemption is due to the comparatively lower reliance of these two distribution companies on furnace oil-based power generation. Instead, they are utilizing a sufficient supply of lower-cost electricity produced in the southern region.

The statement emphasized that since cheaper electricity is readily available and being consumed locally within these networks, there is no need to impose additional inconvenience on consumers in these areas.
