February 03, 2026 (MLN): Provincial Ombudsman, Sindh’s order against the chief executive officer of K-Electric Limited (PSX: KEL) has been set aside, bringing a decisive close to a high-profile legal chapter that had lingered over Pakistan’s largest power utility for months, according to a filing with the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The case traced back to a workplace harassment complaint filed by a former employee under the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, against two employees and a former director of the company.

An order issued on July 31, 2025, had also implicated K-Electric’s chief executive, triggering regulatory disclosures and legal challenges.

The company moved swiftly after the ruling. The Sindh High Court suspended the operation of the order following a constitutional petition filed by the CEO, while a separate appeal was taken to the Governor of Sindh, the statutory forum empowered to review decisions of the provincial ombudsman.

After examining the record and hearing the parties, the appellate authority exercised powers under Section 9 of the Act to overturn the July 31 order in its entirety, effectively removing a key legal overhang for the utility.

To recall, Moonis Alvi, Chief Executive Officer of K-Electric Limited, on July 31, 2025, issued a formal response to the recent ruling by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh under the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, expressing deep concern over the outcome and revealing his intention to contest the decision.

In a statement released on Thursday, Alvi described the verdict as “deeply distressing” and emphasized that the findings “do not reflect the truth of the situation as [he] experienced it.”

The Ombudsman had imposed a penalty of Rs2.5 million on the CEO following an investigation into a workplace harassment complaint.

Additionally, the Ombudsman ordered the removal of Syed Moonis Alvi from his position as Chief Executive Officer of K-Electric.

“I have always upheld the values of integrity and dignity in professional interactions, and I deeply believe in fostering safe and inclusive workplaces for all,” Alvi said, while reiterating his commitment to due process and justice.

He acknowledged the personal and professional toll the situation has taken and confirmed that he is currently reviewing the decision with legal counsel and intends to exercise his right to appeal through appropriate legal channels.

“It is for anyone who feels wronged to be heard,” Alvi stated, pledging to bring the truth to light through lawful means.

He concluded his message by thanking those who have supported him and reaffirming his respect for the principles of justice and workplace dignity.
