March 11, 2026 (MLN): Jazz has acquired an additional 190 MHz of spectrum in Pakistan’s latest spectrum auction for $239.375 million, significantly expanding its network capacity and reinforcing its long-term investment in the country’s digital infrastructure.
Following the acquisition, Jazz’s total spectrum holdings
have increased from 94.4 MHz to 284.4 MHz, strengthening its multi-band
portfolio as Pakistan moves closer to the next phase of digital connectivity
and the eventual rollout of 5G services.
The newly secured spectrum spans four major frequency
bands, enabling improved network coverage and performance.
acquisition includes 50 MHz in the 3500 MHz band, 70
MHz in the 2600 MHz band, and 50 MHz in the 2300 MHz band.
In addition, the company obtained 20 MHz in the highly
valuable 700 MHz band, which is particularly effective for wide-area
coverage and will help extend high-quality connectivity to rural and
underserved regions across the country.
The additional capacity is expected to strengthen nationwide
4G network performance while creating the technical foundation for a
gradual rollout of 5G capabilities in key urban and enterprise markets.
All future deployments will remain aligned with regulatory
requirements set by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the policy
framework of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Digital connectivity demand in Pakistan continues to grow,
but significant gaps remain. On average, a Pakistani mobile user consumed around
8 GB of data during the last fiscal year, compared with a regional
average of about 20 GB.
Nearly 40% of subscribers still do not have access to 4G
services, while around a quarter of the population remains without
mobile broadband, underscoring the need for sustained investment in network
expansion.
According to Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of JazzWorld, the
spectrum acquisition supports the company’s broader digital ambitions and
strengthens the foundation for Pakistan’s technological progress.
He acknowledged the role of the Government of Pakistan and
regulators in conducting what he described as a historic spectrum auction that
will help advance the country’s digital ecosystem.
The move also aligns with the company’s transformation into JazzWorld,
a broader digital platform serving more than 100m customers.
Over the past three decades, Jazz has invested over $11bn
in developing and modernizing Pakistan’s connectivity infrastructure,
positioning itself as one of the country’s largest contributors to digital
development.
With the expanded spectrum portfolio, Jazz is expected to accelerate the expansion of high-quality 4G coverage while gradually introducing 5G technology where market demand and ecosystem readiness support its deployment, further strengthening Pakistan’s digital landscape.
