Iran fires missiles at U.S. Bases in Qatar, Iraq

June 23, 2025 (MLN): In a fierce escalation of regional hostilities, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a volley of ballistic missiles late Monday under “Operation Blessings of Victory,” targeting U.S. bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation for recent Western strikes on its nuclear sites.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, at least ten missiles were fired toward Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, home to over 8,000 U.S. personnel, and one toward Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq’s Anbar province. 

Qatar’s government reported that its air defences successfully intercepted the missile over Al Udeid, with no casualties or damage to report.

The overnight assault sent shockwaves through Gulf skies: Qatar suspended its airspace, forcing commercial flights to circle or return to their origin, while Bahrain followed suit with a full shutdown.

Across Doha, residents described “extraordinary scenes” of aircraft looping overhead and widespread panic as people raced toward shelters. 

In Riyadh and other Gulf capitals, U.S. installations were placed on high alert, with convoy movements restricted and additional Patriot batteries deployed.

In Tehran, the Supreme National Security Council clarified that the operation was strictly aimed at U.S. forces and not intended to harm “brotherly” Qatar. 

IRGC spokesperson General Ramezan Sharif warned of “further responses” should the U.S. or its allies pursue additional strikes against Iran.
