August 10, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has set the Hajj 2027 cost at Rs1.2m for the regular 40-42-day package and Rs1.3m for the 20-22-day short package as the government accelerates efforts to digitise the entire pilgrimage process.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad
Yousuf said applications, payments and other Hajj-related procedures would be
handled digitally through the Pak Hajj mobile application.
The first installment of Hajj expenses will be collected
from August 17, while pilgrims will be required to deposit the second
installment in the second week of October.
Under the government’s Hajj scheme, 30,000 seats have been
reserved for pilgrims opting for the short-duration package.
Yousuf said around 400,000 registered pilgrims were
currently progressing through the application process. Those unable to perform
Hajj in 2027 would be placed on the waiting list for the subsequent year, he
added.
Habib Bank has been designated as the Ministry of Religious
Affairs’ authorised banking partner for Hajj payments. The minister said an
agreement between the ministry and Habib Bank Islamic would be signed on
Monday.
Addressing questions over the selection of a single bank,
Yousuf said the ministry had invited all banks to participate in the process.
Several banks submitted applications, but Habib Bank was the only institution
that fulfilled the required criteria, particularly those concerning digital
payment facilities.
The digital payment mechanism will also apply to pilgrims
travelling under the private Hajj scheme.
According to the minister, all Hajj-related financial
transactions will be processed through the Pak Hajj app, while private pilgrims
will be able to choose their preferred service provider from the companies
approved on the digital platform.
Habib Bank Islamic Head Asad Khan said 99% of the bank’s
branches across the country would provide digital payment facilities for Hajj
pilgrims. Payments can also be made through credit and debit cards.
