January 29, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Rwanda are exploring ways to strengthen trade ties as Gwadar Port is being developed into a key export hub for Africa.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry made the remarks during a meeting with Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Harerimana Fatou, in Islamabad, according to a press release issued.

The discussions centered on enhancing maritime connectivity and expanding bilateral trade between the two countries.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry emphasized that Pakistan aims to access the East African market, which comprises nearly 500 million consumers.

He highlighted that new maritime corridors are expected to reduce trade costs by up to 30%, improving efficiency for exporters and importers alike.

He pointed out that the Karachi-Djibouti route would significantly cut delivery times, while the Karachi-Mombasa corridor would strengthen regional integration and open new opportunities for trade cooperation.

The minister added that the development of Gwadar Port and these strategic shipping links would position Pakistan as a key trading partner for African markets in the coming years.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner Harerimana Fatou welcomed the initiative, saying that improved connectivity would boost bilateral trade and reinforce economic ties between the two countries.
