November 04, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s passport issuance system is set to undergo further modernization, with a focus on advanced technology, digital services and automation to improve efficiency and facilitate citizens.

Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar stressed the need for comprehensive reforms to make the passport application and delivery process faster, more transparent and accessible.

During a meeting with Director General Immigration and Passports Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa at Parliament House, he reviewed the existing passport issuance system, departmental performance, security features and facilities available to citizens, according to APP.

Syedaal Khan Nasar appreciated the government’s initiatives to improve passport services and the department’s institutional reforms. However, he called for expanding the use of modern technology and automation at every stage of passport issuance.

He emphasised that citizens should not face unnecessary delays, lengthy waiting periods or administrative hurdles. He also directed the authorities to establish an effective mechanism for the timely resolution of public complaints.

The meeting also covered plans to introduce passport issuance facilities through NADRA in the near future, strengthen passport security and improve Pakistan’s international passport ranking.

The DG Passports informed Syedaal Khan Nasar that the number of official (blue) passports had been reduced from 74,000 to 49,000 in line with administrative discipline and international requirements.

Meanwhile, during separate meetings with tribal elders, lawyers, civil society representatives, students and other prominent personalities, Syedaal Khan Nasar discussed public issues, national affairs and the country's political and economic situation.

He said the government was taking steps to promote economic growth, control inflation and provide public relief, citing the recent reduction in petroleum product prices.

He expressed hope that the reduction would also lead to lower prices of other essential commodities.
