March 10, 2026 (MLN): The government reviewed the situation of perishable food items and discussed measures to ensure smooth domestic supply while facilitating the timely export of surplus produce amid evolving regional trade dynamics.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who directed officials to closely monitor the supply situation and improve coordination to support exporters and maintain adequate availability in local markets, according to a press release issued.

Participants examined the current status of perishable commodities and considered steps to streamline exports so surplus produce could reach international markets without delays.

In view of disruptions to some traditional trade routes, the committee explored alternative export pathways, including sea routes and potential new markets for Pakistani products.

Proposals from exporters were also reviewed, with emphasis on enhancing storage facilities, logistics networks, and market access while assessing global demand and pricing trends to strengthen Pakistan’s export competitiveness.
