Govt promises relief for poor, middle class amid fuel crisis

March 30, 2026 (MLN): The government is working to provide additional relief to the poor and middle class, assuring that economically weaker segments will not be left alone during these challenging times.

Fuel supply remains stable despite global pressures, and funds saved through austerity measures are being utilized for public relief instead of increasing oil prices, according to a press release issued.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting in Islamabad to assess the impact of the Gulf crisis on petroleum products, current reserves, and public relief measures.

The meeting included briefings on fuel conservation plans, future action proposals, the implementation of the austerity campaign, and the current stock of medicines.

Coordination with provincial governments is underway to complete ownership registration of motorcycles and rickshaws, ensuring beneficiaries can access potential relief, while digital systems will be used to deliver public aid efficiently.
