March 18, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that economic stability and timely relief for citizens remain the government’s top priorities.

He emphasized that all necessary measures are being implemented to ensure both immediate support and long-term economic resilience in light of ongoing global uncertainties.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, the prime minister focused on austerity measures, relief initiatives, and effective management of petroleum reserves to mitigate the impact of emerging regional challenges.

During the session, PM Shehbaz Sharif instructed petroleum distribution companies to maintain transparency and ensure the sale of fuel at government-fixed prices, the PM Office Media Wing reported.

The meeting included key government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani.

Also present were Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, according to MOIB.

Highlighting the country’s preparedness, the prime minister noted that adequate petroleum supplies are available despite volatile global markets.

He added that timely policy decisions by the government have ensured uninterrupted availability of fuel for consumers.

Further, the prime minister confirmed that national austerity and savings measures are already in place, with additional initiatives under review.

To strengthen accountability, directives have been issued for a third-party audit to monitor the implementation of these measures.

Officials also briefed PM Shehbaz Sharif on current oil reserves, ongoing petroleum imports, and public relief measures.

Additionally, the government has enhanced the Pak App, allowing consumers to report issues related to fuel availability or pricing to guarantee continuous and fair access to petroleum products.

This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to shield the public from global economic fluctuations while maintaining price stability and fuel security across the country.
