Govt takes initiative against population challenge

August 8, 2025 (MLN): The Government has called for the development of a comprehensive policy to harness demographic potential and ensure sustainable economic growth amid concerns over Pakistan’s rapidly increasing population.

A meeting held emphasized the urgent need to integrate the growing population especially youth and women into the national economic framework, said a press release issued yesterday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the population is increasing at an alarming rate of 2.55 percent annually, with youth forming a significant demographic segment.

He termed the youth a vital asset and stressed ongoing efforts to provide them with meaningful economic opportunities.

Emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment, the Prime Minister called for expanding their access to employment and development resources, as they represent the largest segment of the national workforce.

The meeting also discussed the critical role of public awareness in addressing the challenges linked to population growth and formation of a committee to draft a national-level policy framework in coordination with the provinces.
