February 12, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has launched the implementation phase of the Prime Minister’s Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme, under which electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders are being distributed on easy installments along with government subsidies.

The initiative is designed to provide citizens with affordable and environmentally friendly transport options while reducing the country’s reliance on imported fuel.

Electric bikes are being offered with a subsidy of up to Rs80,000, which is being directly transferred to approved applicants’ bank accounts through the State Bank of Pakistan, APP reported.

In the first phase, subsidies are being provided for 41,000 electric vehicles including 40,000 bikes and 1,000 rickshaws and loaders while preparations are underway for a second phase that will extend support to more than 78,000 additional vehicles.

Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hamad Ali Mansoor, said that the government plans to allocate around Rs9 billion in subsidies during the current fiscal year under the PAVE Scheme, with a long-term target of exceeding Rs100 billion in subsidies by 2030.

He emphasized that only applicants who obtain electric vehicles through the officially approved procedure will qualify for financial assistance.

Hamad Ali Mansoor added that the scheme particularly aims to benefit students, youth, and women by offering electric bikes on convenient installment plans, while also helping curb fuel import bills, reduce environmental pollution, boost local industry, and encourage the adoption of sustainable and alternative energy solutions across the country.
