Govt issues first batch of green plates under Asaan Tax Scheme for traders

September 15, 2026 (MLN): The government has issued the first batch of 50 green-coloured plates under the Asaan Tax Scheme, which marks a practical milestone for the initiative aimed at bringing small traders and shopkeepers into the tax net.

The plate serves as a certificate confirming a shopkeeper's registration under the scheme, entitling the holder to its benefits, including immunity from FBR inquiry visits to the shop.

Nearly 5,000 traders have registered on the scheme's app since its launch, with registrations and return filings continuing to rise.

No audit, point-of-sale machine, or withholding agent requirement will be imposed on registered traders.

Minister of State for Finance and Revenue & Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani affixed the first plate at Peshawar Mor Market in G-9, Islamabad, at a ceremony attended by FBR officials and representatives of Anjuman-e-Tajiran, according to a media briefing.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Kayani said the scheme was conceived before the budget after consultations with traders on their concerns, and the mobile application was rolled out following the budget announcement, with the launch taking place a few weeks later.

He said an FBR meeting with all Regional Tax Offices is scheduled for the evening to further push the scheme's rollout, with the aim of extending registration facilities to every corner of the country.

He added that the government and FBR are already running an awareness campaign, and that FBR teams should sit with traders in markets to complete registrations at shopkeepers' doorsteps, which would help make the scheme beneficial and successful, while also widening the tax base and supporting overall tax collection.
