Govt hikes petrol by Rs5, diesel by Rs7.32 per litre

February 16, 2026 (MLN): The federal government has revised petroleum product prices for the next fortnight, with both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) registering increases, effective February 16, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs7.32 per litre, taking the new ex-depot rate to Rs275.70 per litre.

Meanwhile, the price of motor spirit (petrol) has also been increased by Rs5 per litre to Rs258.17 per litre.

The revision follows the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and reflects fluctuations in international oil prices during the previous fortnight.

The increase in diesel prices is expected to have broader implications for the economy, particularly for the transport and agriculture sectors, where HSD is a key input.

Higher diesel costs typically translate into elevated freight charges, which in turn push up the prices of essential commodities.

The rise in petrol prices will also add to the fuel expenses of urban commuters, including motorcyclists and small vehicle owners, slightly reversing the relief seen in recent fortnights.
