Govt extends austerity rules, eases public service hours

June 10, 2026 (MLN): A meeting of the Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Fuel Conservation and Additional Austerity Measures, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, was held in Islamabad to review ongoing policy implementation and exemption requests submitted by various ministries and divisions.

During the session, the committee examined multiple proposals seeking relaxation from certain austerity restrictions.

After detailed consideration, it finalized its recommendations regarding the applicability of the measures across government departments.

The committee also decided that consular attestation services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with its liaison offices in Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore, and Gujrat, will remain operational on Fridays as well to improve public facilitation, according to Radio Pakistan.

In addition, the committee recommended extending the validity of previously notified additional austerity measures set to expire on June 13 until June 30.

It further approved an extension in the closing time of standalone grocery and kiryana stores, allowing them to remain open until 10:00 PM daily, including weekends.
