July 28, 2025 (MLN): The government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting overseas Pakistanis by continuing the Workers' Remittances Incentive Scheme, as stated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The declaration came alongside directives to the Ministry of Finance to immediately release funds for the scheme on a priority basis.

In an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the significant contribution of overseas Pakistanis to Pakistan’s economic development, calling them the country's strength and most valuable asset.

Highlighting recent economic milestones, the Prime Minister noted that in fiscal year 2025, overseas workers and businesspeople sent a record $38.3 billion in remittances.

This historic inflow played a vital role in achieving a current account surplus for the first time in 14 years.

It also helped manage the growing import bill and bolstered Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves, as per the press release issued.

Sharif stressed the government's ongoing efforts to eliminate hurdles in remittance flows and to upgrade the system, making it more efficient and accessible for overseas Pakistanis.
