Govt approves sweeping key legislation measures

March 19, 2026 (MLN): The government has approved a series of key legislative measures.

The approved bills span multiple sectors, including citizenship, media regulation, housing, archives, and religious contributions, reflecting a broad push for legal and institutional reforms, according to a press release issued.

President Asif Ali Zardari endorsed the legislative package, which includes The Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Newspaper Employees (Condition of Service) Amendment Bill, 2026; The Zakat and Ushr (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The National Archives (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Pakistan Names and Emblems (Prevention and Unauthorised Use) (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026; and The Daanish University Islamabad Bill, 2026.

The President also approved the appointment of Eazaz Aslam Dar as Member of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) against the Balochistan quota.

In addition, Sitara-i-Imtiaz has been conferred upon Professor Sarwar Muhammad Khawaja, Rashid Malik and Zain ul Abideen Ahsan in recognition of their services in their respective fields.

Separately, a special remission in sentences has been granted to prisoners as part of the celebrations marking Eid-ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day.
