Govt allocates Rs128bn for public relief: PM

August 20, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif stated that the Federal Government absorbed an impact of approximately Rs128 billion following the outbreak of the war to shield the public from the burden of suddenly soaring prices.

Addressing the Federal Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said the government utilized Rs128bn by cutting the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), helping manage the sharp rise in prices and ease the burden on the common man.

He added that the provinces later joined the effort and fully contributed their share.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the situation would improve in the coming days and weeks, noting that Pakistan's efforts in this regard were continuing. He also prayed for an immediate reduction in tensions and an improvement in the overall situation.

Shehbaz Sharif further stated that the steps taken for the economy over the past two and a half years were gradually yielding improvements, stressing that a return to normalcy was crucial for sustaining this progress.
