August 27, 2025 (MLN): A new era of search has arrived in Pakistan as Google rolled out its advanced ‘AI Mode’, giving users access to an enhanced, AI-driven browsing experience.

Initially introduced in the United States earlier this year, the feature is now expanding to more countries, with Pakistan included in the latest rollout.

Powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, AI Mode allows users to ask longer and more complex questions that previously required multiple searches.

Currently available in English, the tool can be accessed through the Google app on Android and iOS, as well as on mobile and desktop web browsers.

According to Google, early testing has shown that search queries are already two to three times longer than traditional searches, making the feature particularly useful for exploratory tasks like trip planning, product comparisons, and “how to” guides.

“It dives deep to answer multiple questions at once, with helpful links for further exploration,” the company said in a statement.

For Pakistani users, practical use cases include planning detailed itineraries. For instance, a query could be framed around a five-day trip that balances sightseeing, adventure and food exploration, followed by a prompt such as: “Can you recommend some local food spots or traditional dishes in that particular area?”

Educational queries are another area of focus. Parents could ask for free online resources to support a grade 9 student struggling with algebra and geometry, with follow-ups like: “Can you recommend interactive apps or YouTube channels for math practice?”

Behind the feature is a “query fan out” technique, which breaks a question into subtopics, runs multiple searches in parallel, and consolidates results.

This process integrates information from the web, the Knowledge Graph, and real time shopping data for billions of products.

AI Mode is also multimodal, enabling users to interact via text, voice, or images. A photo of unfamiliar spices from a local market, for example, can be uploaded with the query: “What are these spices and how can I use them in Pakistani cooking?” Users can then continue with conversational follow-ups for a seamless experience.

While the new feature promises deeper, smarter, and more comprehensive results, Google has cautioned that like all early-stage AI systems responses may not always be entirely accurate.
