September 22, 2026 (MLN): Gold prices found little direction on Tuesday, pressured by expectations that US interest rates will remain elevated for an extended period, with market participants awaiting fresh signals from Federal Reserve officials on the policy path ahead.

Currently, spot gold is down 1.16% to $4,326.98  an ounce as of [10:32 am] PST, according to data reported by Mettis Global.

Gold is widely regarded as a safeguard against inflation and geopolitical uncertainty, though its attractiveness typically diminishes when interest rates are high, as investors shift toward yield-generating assets instead.

With limited US economic data due this week, attention will center on remarks from Fed policymakers for clues on whether the central bank is inclined toward an additional rate hike in October, alongside movements in crude oil prices, according to Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone, CNCB reported.

A rebound in crude prices that reinforces inflation expectations would deepen concerns around the rate trajectory, keeping gold under pressure, Weston noted, even as oil has pulled back modestly from recent peaks.

The Fed lifted its policy rate by 25 basis points last week and indicated further increases may follow in coming months.

On the geopolitical side, Houthi forces advanced to capture key strategic positions in Yemen in an effort to sever the Red Sea coastline from areas still under Saudi-backed control, following reports that US President Donald Trump halted planned American strikes on the group at the final moment.

Oil prices firmed as markets stabilized after a multi-day slide, with traders watching for progress on possible US-Iran discussions at the United Nations General Assembly this week.

Among other precious metals, spot silver climbed 0.3% to $66.19, platinum edged up 0.3% to $1,792.76, and palladium advanced 0.3% to $1,305.10.
