April 15, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan is witnessing a notable uptick in transshipment activity at Karachi Port, with volumes over the past month surpassing those recorded during the entire previous year, an indication of shifting global trade dynamics and emerging opportunities for the country.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, participated in a panel discussion titled “MENAP Economies Navigating War: Managing Shocks and Shaping the Future,” organized by the International Monetary Fund, according to a press release issued.

Speaking at the session, the finance minister described the ongoing Middle East conflict as one of the largest supply shocks in recent history, comparable to the demand-side disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the crisis has sparked a broader global debate on energy security and supply chain resilience.

Finance minister Aurangzeb outlined the immediate impact of the conflict on fuel availability and prices, while noting that Pakistan is actively conducting scenario planning to assess potential second- and third-order effects, including pressures on inflation, remittances, exports, and capital flows.

He emphasized that building strategic reserves is a key lesson from the ongoing crisis.

The minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline through targeted policy measures and underscored the growing role of technology in strengthening economic resilience.
