Global community extends condolences, support to Pakistan amid flood crisis

August 18, 2025 (MLN): The international community has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with Pakistan over the devastation caused by ongoing floods across the country.

Uzbekistan, Abu Dhabi, and several other nations conveyed condolences to the government and people of Pakistan, reaffirming their support during this humanitarian crisis.

In Abu Dhabi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, conveyed heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction in flood-hit areas including Buner, Swat, Bajaur, Shangla, Mansehra, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Terming the calamity a grave national trial, Ambassador Tirmizi urged the Pakistani diaspora in the UAE to unite in support of the affected families.

As a mark of respect, Independence Day celebrations scheduled in the UAE were postponed.

Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Abdisalam Abid Ali, extended condolences to Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, via social media. Senator Dar thanked his Somali counterpart for the solidarity shown by the Somali people during this difficult time.

UN Secretary General António Guterres also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, the Secretary General affirmed the UN’s readiness to assist Pakistan upon request and conveyed solidarity with the victims.

Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich, conveyed his condolences in a telephonic conversation with Senator Ishaq Dar, expressing prayers and support for the affected families. Senator Dar thanked the Uzbek leadership for their brotherly solidarity.

World leaders emphasized that Pakistan is not alone in this tragedy, pledging to work with Islamabad in addressing the urgent relief and rehabilitation needs of victims.

The catastrophic floods have already displaced thousands, with rescue and relief operations continuing in full swing under the supervision of the government and aid agencies.
