Finance Secretary, Citibank explore ways to diversify Pakistan’s financing sources

October 13, 2026 (MLN): The Citibank has welcomed Pakistan’s
successful conclusion of the fourth review under the IMF programme and the
Staff-Level Agreement (SLA), and held talks with the government on financing
options in both local and foreign currencies.
The bank also noted the country’s
improving economic indicators and the recent upgrade in its sovereign credit
ratings, while both sides discussed ways to diversify financing sources,
broaden access to capital and shape suitable financing structures in line with
the government’s debt management and financing strategy.
The discussions took place when
Finance Secretary Imdad Ullah Bosal, along with his team, met a Citibank
delegation on the sidelines of the World Bank Group and IMF Annual Meetings
2026 in Bangkok, said a press release issued.
The Finance Secretary said the
government remained focused on macroeconomic stability, strengthening the
financing framework and engaging with international financial institutions and
markets to support medium-term economic objectives.
Both sides agreed to stay engaged and
continue discussions on potential financing options and areas of cooperation.
