Fertilizer offtake decrease 48% YoY in January

February 17, 2026 (MLN): Fertilizer consumption in Pakistan witnessed weeker performance in January 2026, as overall nutrient offtake decreased by 48% year-on-year to 151,000 tonnes, according to the latest Monthly Fertilizer Review released by the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC).

In January, urea offtake was at 218,000 tonnes, registering an decrease of 51.1% compared to the same month last year. On the other hand, DAP consumption decreased by 35.8%, to 39,000 tonnes.

Nutrient-wise, nitrogen offtake decreased by 50.8%, potash by 18.75% but phosphate fell by 34.21%.

Cumulative nutrient offtake during Rabi 2025-26 (Oct-Jan) was 1,909,000 tonnes, which increased by 1.9% over Rabi 2024-25. Nitrogen and potash offtake increased by 8.6 and 14.1%, respectively while phosphate offtake decreased by 20.5%.

Total domestic fertilizer production during January 2026 was 744,000 tonnes. Urea and DAP production was 541 and 29,000 tonnes, respectively. Production of other products i.e. NP, CAN, SSP, SOP and NPKs was 79, 72, 9.3, 7.7 and 6.9 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Regionally, urea offtake during January 2026 decreased by 50.5% and 61.5%in Punjab and Sindh, respectively while its offtake decreased by 11.6% and 35% in KP and Balochistan over January last year.

 During December 2025, DAP offtake decreased by 37%, 18%, 70% and 56.1 in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and KP respectively over January previous year.

On the pricing front, domestic fertilizer prices showed mixed trends. Urea (Sona) increased slightly by 1.3% to Rs. 4,357 per 50 kg bag, while prices of DAP, NP, SSP (G), CAN and SOP decreased by 1.6, 2.2, 1.4, 0.3 and 0.4 percent, respectively

Internationally, urea  prices went up in key markets such as China and Middle East.
