Farmers to benefit from simplified loan programs, reduced markup rates

March 04, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s agricultural sector is set to receive strengthened support through easier loan programs, financial relief, and targeted initiatives aimed at helping small and medium farmers increase productivity and overcome economic challenges.

Simplified and transparent loan procedures are being emphasized to ensure farmers can access timely assistance for seeds, fertilizers, machinery, and other essential inputs, APP reported.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with the President of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited, Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti, at Parliament House, Islamabad.

The discussion focused on the current state of agriculture, challenges faced by farmers, and the Bank’s programs designed to boost the sector.

Tahir Bhatti highlighted special relief schemes offering loans on easy installments and reduced markup rates, aimed at small-scale and medium landowners to promote agricultural productivity.

Syed Raza Gilani Gilani appreciated the bank’s initiatives, calling agriculture the backbone of Pakistan’s economy.

He reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting farmer-friendly policies and stressed the importance of maximizing relief for deserving farmers to ensure rural prosperity and national food security.
