FM says Pakistan has fundamentals to attract investment

October 06, 2026 (MLN): Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said Pakistan possesses the fundamental strengths needed to attract investment, adding that these are increasingly being acknowledged by domestic and international stakeholders.

Addressing a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) event in Karachi virtually, the finance minister highlighted the economy’s recovery, noting that the country had been experiencing contraction around three years ago but is now projected to achieve 4% growth in the current fiscal year.

He stressed that the government aims to sustain economic expansion through responsible growth, avoiding the boom-and-bust cycles that have historically disrupted economic stability.

On privatization, Aurangzeb pointed to interest from Turkish companies in Pakistan’s power distribution companies (DISCOs), highlighting foreign investor interest in the sector.

Discussing the external account, the finance minister said the country’s foreign exchange reserves reached a record $21.4 billion a couple of weeks ago, marking the highest level in Pakistan’s history.

He added that the reserves now provide nearly three months of import cover.
