FBR moves to fix small traders’ tax registration issues

September 30, 2026 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said the Special Tax Scheme for Small Shopkeepers is currently in its initial implementation phase as the tax authority works to resolve practical and technical difficulties faced by traders during registration.

The FBR said it remains in contact with traders, market representatives and trade bodies to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme, while feedback from the business community is being considered to address genuine problems emerging during the registration process.

The Board has advised traders facing technical difficulties or other problems during registration to approach the FBR directly for assistance and guidance.

The development comes as the government seeks to bring more small businesses into the documented tax system through a simplified framework aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance.

According to the FBR, the scheme is designed to provide small shopkeepers greater certainty and ease of doing business while facilitating their transition into the formal tax system.

The tax authority said continued coordination between the government, FBR, traders and trade bodies would help resolve implementation-related issues and support the scheme’s intended objectives.

The FBR expressed confidence that the Special Tax Scheme would provide a facilitative framework for small traders and contribute to broader tax documentation efforts.

The Board has also reiterated its commitment to providing assistance to eligible traders so they can complete registration without unnecessary difficulties.
