FBR offers free help, extends deadline for manual tax filers

November 05, 2025 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced special measures to support taxpayers who previously filed manual income tax returns, as part of its ongoing drive to digitize Pakistan’s tax filing system.

In line with the FBR’s initiative to transition fully to an online filing mechanism, manual tax return submissions have been discontinued from Tax Year 2024. The move aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and data management through a comprehensive digital platform.

Acknowledging that some taxpayers may face challenges adapting to the new online system, the FBR has established dedicated facilitation cells in each tax office across the country.

These units will provide free legal and technical assistance to individuals who were previously filing manual returns, ensuring a smooth transition to the online framework.

To further ease the process, the FBR has extended the income tax return filing deadline for manual filers until November 30, 2025, under the powers conferred by the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Taxpayers have been urged to visit their respective regional tax offices for free assistance with online registration and return submission. In cases where legal support is required, FBR field offices will arrange free-of-cost legal services during the current tax year.

This initiative shows the FBR’s broader commitment to modernizing tax administration, improving taxpayer facilitation and promoting a digitally empowered, transparent, and efficient tax ecosystem in Pakistan.
