FBR extends deadline for filing Tax Year 2026 returns till Oct 15

October 01, 2026 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 from September 30 to October 15, 2026, for persons who were required to file their returns by September 30.

The extension was communicated through Circular No. 3 of 2026-27.

The Federal Board of Revenue acted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Around 5.2 million income tax returns had been filed by Wednesday, including nearly 1.3m returns from new taxpayers, according to FBR officials.

The number compares with around 3.2m returns filed during the same period last year, highlighting a sharp increase in filing activity as the Sept. 30 deadline approaches.

The extension comes as the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Pakistan Tax Bar Association had separately urged the government and FBR to extend the deadline, citing difficulties faced by taxpayers in completing returns and supporting documentation.
