September 10, 2026 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)
has requested the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI)
leaders to effectively campaign for the retailers scheme so that the tax base
can be broadened and the tax burden on already compliant taxpayers can be
shared.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial met with a
delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(FPCCI) in Karachi as part of his monthly visit to the city.
The delegation was led by Saquib Fayyaz Magoon and
included senior office bearers and business leaders, while the Chairman was
accompanied by Member Inland Revenue (Operations), Member Customs (Operations),
and senior FBR officers, said a press release issued.
The meeting was held as a follow-up to an earlier
session to review progress on matters discussed previously.
The FPCCI delegation appreciated the Chairman's
initiative of making monthly visits to Karachi, describing it as a positive
step reflecting the government's commitment to sustained, direct engagement
with the business community, and noted that such regular interaction had
significantly improved communication between FBR and trade bodies, allowing
issues to be raised and addressed in a timely manner.
The delegation acknowledged that the majority of issues
raised in the previous meeting had been resolved through the efforts of Member
Operations (Inland Revenue and Customs) and their respective teams, terming
this responsiveness encouraging for the business community.
The delegation stressed the need for continued follow-up
on remaining outstanding matters and raised a few new issues, including certain
classification matters and old income tax refunds.
The Chairman and his team assured the delegation that
all issues, both pending and newly raised, would be taken up on a priority
basis and resolved in consultation with the concerned representatives of the
Chambers and FBR wings.
The Chairman reiterated FBR's commitment to a
facilitative and responsive approach toward the business community, saying
regular engagement with trade bodies including FPCCI would continue to promptly
address taxpayer concerns and strengthen trust between the tax administration
and the business community.
