Sep 06, 2021: Europe's major stock markets opened higher Monday as dealers took their cue from a broadly positive session in Asia, ahead of this week's eurozone interest rate decision.

In initial trade, London's benchmark FTSE 100 index won almost 0.5 percent to 7,172.58 points, compared with Friday's closing level.

Frankfurt's DAX 30 added 0.5 percent to 15,855.84 points and the Paris CAC 40 also won 0.5 percent to 6,722.94.

Asian indices mostly rose Monday after a big miss on US jobs creation last month fuelled optimism that the Federal Reserve will hold fire on tapering its massive financial support programme, while Tokyo extended last week's rally on hopes for more stimulus.

US markets will remain shut for the Labor Day holiday, and will reopen for business on Tuesday.

The European Central Bank will convene Thursday for an interest rate decision, with markets hoping for hints when it might start easing vast pandemic-era stimulus.

Policymakers will be anxious that eurozone inflation surged to three percent in August as economic recovery gathered steam, overshooting the ECB's new two-percent target.
