October 28, 2026 (MLN): Profit for the period of Engro Holdings Limited (PSX: ENGROH) fell 41.68% year-on-year to Rs48.42bn for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, compared with Rs83.03bn in the same period last year.

Total basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) declined 24.70% to Rs24.33 from Rs32.31 in the corresponding period last year. EPS from continuing operations fell 29.19% to Rs24.18 from Rs34.15, while discontinued operations contributed earnings of Rs0.15 per share, against a loss of Rs1.84 per share.

The decline came from the absence of last year’s gains of Rs36.18bn and Rs24.10bn linked to thermal assets, which had lifted operating profit in the base period. Higher finance costs and levy also weighed.

A 15% rise in revenue, a 26% rise in gross profit and a Rs1.87bn remeasurement gain on the provision for SIDC partly cushioned the impact.

Revenue grew 15.03% to Rs426.41bn from Rs370.69bn. Cost of revenue rose at a slower pace of 11.26% to Rs307.34bn from Rs276.24bn, lifting gross profit 26.08% to Rs119.08bn from Rs94.45bn.

Selling and distribution expenses increased 22.95% to Rs12.38bn from Rs10.07bn, while administrative expenses fell 24.46% to Rs11.43bn from Rs15.13bn.

Other operating expenses declined 9.11% to Rs3.19bn from Rs3.51bn, and other income fell 14.00% to Rs7.02bn from Rs8.16bn. The company booked a loss of Rs191.17m on subsidy receivable from the government, against a gain of Rs194.69m last year.

Operating profit declined 25.01% to Rs100.77bn from Rs134.37bn.

Finance costs rose 24.44% to Rs32.95bn from Rs26.48bn, while share of income from joint venture and associates edged up 0.62% to Rs6.15bn from Rs6.11bn.

Profit before income tax, minimum tax and final tax fell 35.12% to Rs73.97bn from Rs114.01bn. Levy (minimum tax and final tax) rose 61.79% to Rs9.11bn from Rs5.63bn, taking profit before income tax down 40.15% to Rs64.86bn from Rs108.38bn.

Income tax declined 22.49% to Rs16.75bn from Rs21.62bn, leaving profit from continuing operations at Rs48.11bn, down 44.55% from Rs86.76bn.

Discontinued operations recorded a profit of Rs313.96m, against a loss of Rs3.73bn last year, which brought profit for the period to Rs48.42bn.

Of the total, profit attributable to owners of the holding company fell 25.21% to Rs29.09bn from Rs38.90bn, while profit attributable to non-controlling interest declined 56.20% to Rs19.33bn from Rs44.13bn.
