Emerging economies seek greater global influence

February 13, 2026 (MLN): Emerging markets and developing economies must take a more prominent role in shaping global economic governance, reflecting their growing contribution to global GDP and growth, according to Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency during the second edition of the AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies, Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of collective dialogue and coordinated policy responses amid a complex global environment.

“Platforms like the AlUla Conference enable emerging economies to share lessons, align strategies, and strengthen cooperation in navigating global economic challenges,” he said.

He highlighted heightened geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, and rapid technological transformation, particularly in artificial intelligence.

He underscored that the value of high-level engagements lies in translating discussions into concrete policy actions.

Referring to the conference’s opening sessions, Aurangzeb noted the growing economic weight of emerging economies.

He called for their expanding share in global output to be matched by greater influence in decision-making processes.
