Elon Musk launches 'America Party' as new political force

July 07, 2025 (MLN): Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially launched a new political movement, the "America Party," marking his bold entry into the U.S. political landscape as a third-party alternative.

The reveal came on Saturday, July 5, through his social media platform X, just a day after he posted a provocative poll asking whether Americans wanted to break away from what he described as the "two-party (some would say uniparty) system."

“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence,” Musk wrote alongside the poll, which received over 1.2 million votes.

With 65.4% of participants voting "yes," Musk wasted no time in responding.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” he declared in a follow-up post.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

He reinforced the message by reposting a meme of a two-headed snake labeled “End the Uniparty,” adding a single word: “Yes.”

Musk’s announcement came after repeated criticism of the Republican-led Congress and its support for Trump’s so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which Musk had openly opposed.

On Monday, June 30, Musk pledged that if the bill passed, he would create and finance the America Party to challenge Republican lawmakers.

“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” he wrote on X.

“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

The idea of a new political party had been simmering for weeks.

Back on June 5, Musk polled his followers with the question, “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?”

Musk’s political history is marked by his brief but significant role as an adviser to Donald Trump early in his presidency.

He led the Department of Government Efficiency, a controversial agency that drastically reduced the federal workforce and shut down various government departments.

However, Musk's alliance with Trump soured quickly.

After resigning from the administration on May 30, he denounced the same spending legislation Trump later endorsed, calling it a betrayal of his fiscal reform efforts.

The fallout between the two escalated into a public feud, with both Musk and Trump exchanging barbs on social media beginning June 5.

The once close political allies have since become vocal critics of each other, further adding drama to Musk’s third-party ambitions.
