October 19, 2026 (MLN): Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited (PSX: EPQL) reported an 18% decline in its net profit for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 (9MCY26), recording Rs700.2m compared to Rs851.07m in the corresponding period last year.

Alongside the financial results, the board declared an interim cash dividend for the third quarter of Rs0.75 per share (7.5%).

Reflecting this bottom-line compression, basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS) for the nine-month period fell to Rs2.16, down from Rs2.63 in 9MCY25.

For the third quarter (Q3CY26) alone, net profit stood at Rs353.79m (EPS of Rs1.09) compared to Rs391.15m (EPS of Rs1.21) in Q3CY25.

The primary factors weighing on nine-month profitability were higher generation costs, reduced non-operating income, and a net finance cost burden.

Top-line revenue for 9MCY26 expanded by 17% year-on-year to Rs10.10bn, up from Rs8.64bn.

However, cost of revenue rose 20% to Rs9.02bn, causing gross profit to contract 2% to Rs1.08bn compared to Rs1.11bn in 9MCY25.

On the operational front, administrative expenses remained controlled, edging up 1% to Rs317.65m.

Operating profit fell 6% to Rs742m, further impacted by an 80% decline in "other income" (Rs3.75m down from Rs18.50m) and higher other operating expenses of Rs28.29m.

Below the operating line, net financial impact swung negative to a finance cost of Rs28.44m (compared to net finance income of Rs87.49m in 9MCY25).

This pushed profit before taxation down 19% to Rs713.56m.

The company absorbed a reduced corporate tax charge of Rs13.36m for the period (down 50% from Rs26.56m in 9MCY25).

Backed by strong revenue dispatch but impacted by elevated cost of sales and finance charges, Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited closed the nine-month period with a net profit of Rs700.20m
