ECC approves international tender for export of 108,000 MT of sugar

August 20, 2026 (MLN): The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the launch of international tenders for the export of 108,000 metric tons of sugar currently held by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the ECC meeting at the Finance Division, where the committee considered a summary submitted by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research regarding disposal of the remaining sugar stock.

The 108,000 MT sugar represents the balance from the 300,000 MT imported by the government last year on the recommendation of the Steering Committee on Sugar, constituted with Cabinet approval.

Under the ECC decision, TCP will proceed with the international tendering process for export of the sugar, with the process to be conducted strictly in accordance with the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules, 2004.

The decision comes as the government moves to dispose of the remaining imported sugar stock through the international market.

The ECC meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, as well as federal secretaries and senior officials from the relevant ministries and divisions.
