ECC alters vehicle import policy, keeps two schemes only

December 09, 2025 (MLN): The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, allowed significant amendments to the country’s vehicle import regime.

That narrows the framework to only two schemes, Transfer of Residence and Gift, according to the Press Statement issued today. 

Under the revised structure presented by the Ministry of Commerce, these schemes will now be subject to commercial-import safety and environmental standards.

Additional modifications include the extension of the intervening import period from two to three years and mandatory one-year non-transferability for imported vehicles

The ECC emphasized that the updated procedure aims to strengthen regulatory oversight, enhance safety compliance, and close loopholes used for commercial misuse under personal schemes.

In other decisions, the ECC reviewed the Circular Debt Management Plan for FY 2025–26, instructed development of a medium-term fiscal reduction strategy, and called on the Power Division to institute a monitoring mechanism for DISCO performance.

The Committee also cleared multiple summaries, including restrictions on chloroform imports.

This allows only pharmaceutical companies with DRAP-issued NOCs to import Trichloromethane due to its toxic and carcinogenic nature.
